A partially saturated soil sample has a natural moisture content of 15% and bulk unit weight of 1.9gm/cc. The specific gravity of soil solids is 2.7. Determine the degree of saturation, and void ratio. What will be unit weight of soil sample on saturation.

Determine the unit weights of soil in the loosest and densest states of 2mm dia sphere which have a specific gravity of 2.7.
7.
A soil has a bulk unit weight of 18kN/m3 and a water content of 5%. Calculate the amount of water in litres required to be added to 1m3 of soil to raise the water content to 15%. Assume the void ratio to be same. Take Gs = 2.6  
8.
(a)   Explain the method of finding the coefficient of permeability by constant
head permeability test.
(b)   Discuss the factors influencing the Permeability of soils.
9.
Explain the procedure involved in classification of soil as per Indian Soil Classification system.
10.
Write a note on Effective Stress Principle.

A clay sample originaly at 25mm thick and at a void ratio 1.12 was subjected to a compressive load. After the clay sample was completely consolidated its thickness was found to be 24mm. Compute the final void ratio.

What are Atterberg limits and how will you arrive at these limits.

Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures
                                       
 Note: Answer the following questions
           Mention the relevant code clauses wherever necessary
           Draw diagrams neatly

       1.   What is Stress Block as per Limit state method? Derive Stress Block parameters from the first principles?

    2.   Design flexural reinforcement for an RC beam of size 250 mm wide and 450 mm deep to resist an  ultimate moment of 220kN m. Assume moderate exposure condition. Use M25 concrete and Fe415 steel. Adopt Limit state method. 

    3.   Determine the ultimate moment of resistance of the beam section. Data given b=230mm, D= 400mm, Asc=3 bars of 20mmdia Ast= 3 bars of 25 mm dia, clear cover = 30mm Use M20 concrete and Fe 415 steel.
    
     4. A floor system consists of a slab 110 mm thick, cast integrally on beams spaced at 3.5 m center to center and spanning over 7m. he beam has width of 300mm and the total depth of the beam including the thickness of the slab is 600mm. Assume mild exposure condition. The floor is to be designed for a service load of 4 kN/m2 and 0.6 kN/m2 for finishes excluding he self weight of the floor system. Design flexural reinforcement for one intermediate T section using Limit state method. Use M25 concrete and Fe 415 steel.
