Answer any two
1.     Write a note on the following
(a)   Vertical stress on a horizontal plane at a specified depth.
(b)   Pressure Bulb
2.     Explain the method of construction of zero air voids line.
3.     Explain the three drainage tests in Triaxial Test apparatus.
4.     State the assumptions in Terzhaghi’s One dimensional consolidation and explain the theory of consolidation.

Solve All Problems
1.     Plot an isobar of intensity 10kN/m2 when a point load of intensity 100kN was imposed at ground level. Locate at least 8 points on the pressure bulb.
2.     The following data was obtained in Standard Proctor test for a soil with Gs 2.65

EE LAB-OPTIMUM DOSAGE OF COAGULANT(JAR TEST) VALUES

Dosage of coagulant(mg/lit): 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60

Turbidity(NTU): 10.2, 3.5, 2.6, 3.2, 4.7, 4.4

Initial turbidity=282 NTU

% Removal for corresponding dosages: 96.38%, 98.75%, 99.07%, 98.86%, 98.83%, 98.43%

Draw a graph by taking Dosage of coagulant on X-axis and % removal on -axis. Then find the optimum dosage of coagulant value from the graph.
